Employees contribute massively to a company’s growth and are a valuable asset of a company. That’s a fact.

But a safe and comfortable working environment plays a vital role in an employee’s performance. It influences their progress, concentration and productivity. According to Total Wellness, a healthy workplace is one where employees thrive in their work and feel fulfilled while also staying physically and mentally healthy. They’re productive and they feel supported, which leads to reduced absenteeism, illness, and conflict.

Based on their data collected, the average person may spend 90,000 hours of their life at work. Wouldn’t it be nice to spend these hours in a toxic-free place—somewhere where they may also consider their “second home”?

Here are four ways on how to build a physically and mentally healthy environment for you and your employees:

1. Establish a connection between your employees

Building relationships with your employees by connecting with them is an effective way to create a strong bond. Having this bond will enable them to act confidently and express themselves freely, providing them a safe space to do their tasks well. It reduces the tendency to feel stressed and lessens the cases of absences, tardiness, and toxic feelings. Take the time to get to know them, hear their thoughts and allow them to be inspired by how you lead the group.

2. Be observant

Observe how people interact with one another. What is their attitude towards each other? Does there seem to be a strong bond between them? It is always a pleasure to meet and interact with new people, especially if they have the same interests and goals as you do.

But never lose sight of enforcing appropriate rules and boundaries. Try to help one employee who may be on the verge of slacking off by checking how they are feeling and offering options on how you can help. Your employees will appreciate your support and will be motivated to work more efficiently with it.

3. Organize and maintain the place

The physical look of an office affects the work culture. Business and HR Manager, Gemma Chadwick, said, “Ensure that there is plenty of natural light, space, comfortable furniture and perhaps even paint the walls green – humans’ naturally associate green with nature and tranquility.”

The statement above says how a simple glance from artistic walls could help boost your employees’ mood. In other aspects, ensure employees’ safety by hiring someone who can monitor electricity conditions. Everything should be maintained to prevent unwanted incidents.

For employees who work from home, a well-lit room and a tidy desk could boost your mood and energy. Let that natural sunlight peek indoors to empower you throughout the day and make it a habit to keep your desk free from clutter and crumbs.

If possible, find a quiet area separate from your bedroom to work. Otherwise, allow yourself to take short breaks outside of your room to help separate your work from feeling at home.

4. Use your voice

Effective communication is essential to building a collaborative workplace. You need to take action whenever there are mistakes and talk about where you or your colleague went wrong. This will turn mistakes into lessons. However, it is also important to recognize hard work and praise people for their effort. Appreciated people tend to be more determined in doing their jobs.

Summary

The tips mentioned above are just a few ways of what you can do to look after your employees. It’s important to acknowledge how a workplace can affect an individual’s overall well-being. Practicing employee engagement gauges work satisfaction, therefore demonstrating your company’s values and mission.

A positive culture makes employees feel appreciated, inspired, and valued, which in turn leads to your company’s success.
